Frequently Asked Questions
Are there any volunteering opportunities at Souk?
Yes! We are always willing to take committed volunteers in both the U.S. and Morocco to help us with all levels of our marketing, operations, and awareness building. For more information on this, fill out our contact form and specify your interest in a volunteer position.
I’m not interested in buying products. How else can I support the cause?
Souk is a 501-c-3 nonprofit organization registered in the United States, which means that we accept tax-free donations. If you are interested in donating, fill out a Contact form and we'll be in touch. Thank you for your excitement about the Souk cause!
Why is shipping free?
We actually build the cost of shipping into the price of the good. International shipping is a hefty expensive, and we've done our best to minimize it, but we don't want you to experience shock when you reach Check-out and see a full, unsubsidized cost of shipping from Morocco to your doorstep. This model of building in costs makes things easier for us and you to know exactly how much you're paying for a product.
How much of the proceeds do artisans get from their craft?
Typically about 1/3 of the final cost of each good goes to the Moroccan artisan who made it. This rate may seem low, but it is a much higher cut than what is given to artisans who rely on a longer supply chain like factory owners and corporations to get their products to the U.S.! All of the additional price you pay goes towards covering shipping and operations for Souk, as well as supporting local Moroccan non-profit organizations through our Souk Foundation.

Souk is also intentional about matching the market price for goods that already exists in the local community. If we paid artisans a pro-rated amount to produce goods for Americans, this would raise market prices for locals and harm the local economy. Matching the market price allows for expanding economic opportunities without disrupting the Moroccan economy.
